Cycling is always fun but there are days that stand out as special. Sunday was one of those days! The group gathered at The Peddler at noon for what would be a great ride in even better weather. After the ride everyone gathered at my house for a BBQ and a few beers. The kids and dogs added that extra something. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. Well, It wasn’t easy getting there but we managed to get one team to the Team Time Trial. Jesse, Eric, Rick and I worked well together to take 10th place at 1:02:33. Jesse was driving the “Pain Train” this time with Rick riding super strong as well. Eric took one last huge pull to pass 2 or 3 other teams before calling it a day on the 3rd lap. That left 3 of us for the final lap. I was suffering by this point and taking short pulls while Jesse and Rick did most of the work. Very nice riding by EVERYONE on the team.

The team BAR has been updated including the TTT and Capitol Velo is in 19th position out of 80 teams. Not too bad! I can see us moving up a bit as the season continues and we get faster. The individual results are here: http://app.obra.org/results/competition/13370/team/5615

Finally, We have a club BBQ coming up on June 8th. I tried to get everyone on the team an invite but if I missed you just drop me an email and let me know you are coming. Nice work everyone. Lets keep the momentum going.

The sun finally returned last weekend and it looks like our team members made the most of it. While most of us tooled around Salem, Sage Freeman was riding Eugene Roubaix. When the Cat 4/5 field hit the gravel stretch for the last time, Sage gassed it and found he way to his first podium of the year in 3rd place. New team member Joel Melka hung on to finish the Master race while a third of the field DNFed.

Sunday in Salem was all about the Monster Cookie. From engineer Matt Wilheit’s “Pain Train” to more humane paced groups, Cap Velo was out in force. I know Jim and Steff Allen where out, as were Robert Chavier and Sage. I’m sure I missed a few, but it was because I was desperately trying to catch Mike and Carol Peterson during the last Estacada TT that morning. They had a two minute head start, which they held onto while riding to 2nd place in the tandem category. They are also siting firmly atop the Tandem BAR rankings too! Rick Kercheski also made the trek out to the Clackmas River and took home 5th in the Masters 50+ group. I, meanwhile, rolled in a near the back of the Cat 3 TTers at 9th.

Next Tuesday, we’re taking the show on the road. Capitol Velo/Lulay’s Car Connection is hitting PIR. Let’s hope it doesn’t hit back . . . again.
